I'm all about Native Americans! As a writer and filmmaker of Cherokee and Choctaw descent, I focus on telling the stories of Native people in print and video. I now live in beautiful central California, home of the Chumash People.

Background Information

With BA and MA degrees in TV/Film production and more than 25 years experience, I am passionate about Native American history, culture and contemporary issues. This passion informs and motivates my work as a writer and filmmaker. Currently I'm writing short fictional books for teens featuring Native American characters and situations. These are the first books of their kind in print.

Birth Place
Dallas, TX USA

I have won several awards from the American Indian Film Festival for films I've written, directed and/or produced. Also won a Children's Moonbeam award for my full-color book Native American Night Before Christmas. The new series of teen novels is getting rave reviews from educators and critics!

Additional Information

Recent work includes three new teen novels in the Pathfinders series from 7th Generation Books. These books give readers a glimpse into contemporary Native American life. In 2010 and 2011 Clearlight Books of Santa Fe published my two children's books Native American Night Before Christmas and Native American Twelve Days of Christmas. Fun books that give a Native view of these Christmas classics. "Maria's Legacy." This educational documentary film tells the story of the re-birth of the tribal language of the Chumash People of the Santa Ynez Valley, California. The story begins with Maria Solares (1842-1919) who helped preserve the language, culture and history of the tribe. "From Warriors to Soldiers". This non-fiction work examines the history of American Indian service in the US military from the Revolution to modern times.
