Michele Nicole Johnson is inspired by the memories of her ancestors, those she knew and those whose lives were so inspirational, that their stories have been passed down to her. She looks to history for those whose voices were ignored or overlooked. Michele Nicole's favorite writers are too numerous to list, but include Toni Morrison, Octavia Butler, Alice Walker, Maya Angelou, Ralph Ellison, Tina McElroy Ansa, Mariama Ba, Ben Okri, Ousmane Sembene, Chinua Achebe, and on and on.
Michele's background is in newspaper journalism. She received her journalism degree from the University of Florida, and has worked as a writer and editor at major newspapers in Florida, South Carolina and North Carolina.
