"Dr. Feel Good" a.k.a. Dr. Daniel Rutley - because his focus is on managing emotions so that one can be happier, more confident and fulfilled.
Dr. Daniel Rutley is a compassionate, understanding psychotherapist with more than 20 years in private practice. Dan has the ability to create rapport quickly, a skill that is just as important as his background. He specializes in helping people in the areas of relationships, depression, anxiety, anger as well as addiction and behavior control. His therapeutic style is to use cognitive-behavioral therapy to achieve positive, long-lasting change quickly. “I focus on short-term counseling emphasizing long-term results,” he says.
Dan uses a warm, direct approach that concentrates on the present. He does not tell you what to do but he gives you a systematic, step-by-step “recipe” to solve your most common emotional, behavioral and relationship problems. He guides you and encourages a team-like effort, working together so that you quickly reach positive, productive conclusions. He meets people in a warm, comfortable and inviting environment that encourages calm, relaxed communication.
Dan has a unique outlook developed from a lifetime of studying people and disciplines that complement individual psychology. These include social psychology, anthropology, criminology, science, physics, astronomy and philosophy. These fields broaden his understanding of people, the world and their complex interactions. His experience is diverse, involving a wide variety of people with problems ranging from the mundane to the traumatic. In addition to conducting a clinical private practice, he has worked with street youth and taught courses for the Canadian Armed Forces.
The author of the best-selling book Escaping Emotional Entrapment and the audio CD Understanding the Opposite Sex, Dr. Rutley regularly appears as a guest expert on TV and radio programs, and is often interviewed for magazines and newspapers. He is also a professional speaker, frequently giving presentations to educational institutions and major corporations.
“It is my goal to leave all the people I work with feeling better about themselves,” says Dan, “knowing and believing the truth, that they are truly wonderful people who have the ability to be in charge of and enrich their own lives, and to reach the pinnacle of their own definitions of success.”
His personal motto is mens sana in corpore sano (a sound mind in a sound body), and his favorite physical activities include squash, scuba diving, skydiving, volleyball, tennis and baseball. He is an inveterate traveler.
He remains fascinated by the unknown and the mysterious. He has studied the psychology of illusions and magic, how and why hypnosis works, cross-cultural symbolism and mythology. He is an avid collector of the Arthurian dragon.
