I'm from a working-class background, but would have loved to have gone to university in the 1970's. This was somewhat remedied much later with five years of study with the Open University, gaining my degree in the Social Sciences in July 2009 at the age of 52. I have always had an interest in poetry but have often felt frustrated by the obscure nature of many published works. I therefore began writing myself 14 years ago and I would describe most of my work as plainly written but deep. In May 2010 I finally published my first book, but I still have enough material for a second and possibly third volume. Being an observer, I find there are plenty of subjects to work with, therefore my collection is diverse. I would love my writing to inspire/provoke thought in the way that Kipling's 'If' has inspired and provoked deep thought in myself.
