My second novel "Knickknack" was released this month.
Synopsis:When the Carters move into a well-kept bungalow on the East Side of Madison, they soon discover they are sharing their new digs with what appears to be the spirit of slain gangster rapper Uncle Playa, who is really the Knickknack, a shapeshifting entity which thrives on deception and is plotting to conquer Hell and unleash an army of mutant earwigs upon the Earth.
In order to expel the Knickknack from their home, the Carters set out to find the Zuccothicon, a rare book of spells, and a trio of mystical bat ears- the only effective weapons against the Knickknack and its minions. To assist them in this dangerous endeavor, they enlist the aid of renowned psychic Tamara Phillips. After Tamara is killed by a wolf-like monster, the Gigantilupus, the Carters are left to fend for themselves. Armed with the strength they find in their love for each other and in their Christian values, they fight against increasingly impossible odds as they battle super-intelligent hornets, a possessed cart caddy, and the monstrous goat lurking below a hellish corruption of Wrigley Field.
"Knickknack" was spawned by a conversation I had with my youngest sister about what might happen if legendary rapper Tupac Shakur was summoned from the grave with a seance. It is also inspired by a series of bedtime stories that were told to this same sister when she was little. These stories were quite intense and at the time she practically forbade me to publish them in book form. Ironically, when I read her the novel, she decided she enjoys it better than "IVD". Go figure.
My first novel "IVD" has been out in hardcover since 8/18/09
Synopsis:By day, die-hard Chicago sports fan Mark Crizlanek toils away at his thankless retail job. By night, he retreats to a subterranean shrine to Chicago sports. One night, he runs into an old high school buddy Trevor Gates, who brags about his new job with the online movie rental service Reel Speedy, which is really a front for a terrorist operation run by the most ruthless mob family in the Midwest, the Cappellas, who eliminate their foe
s with IVD's (Incendiary Video Discs). Two hours later, Mark's secret soul mate Crystal Logan turns up murdered and he finds himself implicated in her death. In order to locate her killer, he is forced to become a Cappella hit man and team up with escaped school shooter Erik Stockton in an assassination plot against Jared Mendota, Mark's former employer. Mark and Erik blow up Mendota's estate with an IVD but their intended victim escapes at the last minute. Even though they are now on the run from both the law and the Cappellas, Mark is compelled to destroy the home of Erik's archenemy in exchange for incriminating information about Crystal's killer. He successfully completes this mission but Erik refuses to fulfill his end of the bargain unless Mark agrees to sell racist signs for his white supremacist uncle. Enraged at the kid's manipulative stubbornness, Mark ties him up in his basement and tries to extract the name of Crystal's killer from him by repeatedly screening a video of a brutal assault on Erik at a party. When this method of interrogation fails, Mark is about to give up and resign himself to getting the information he needs from Trevor until he sees a news flash about Brett Favre's retirement. How does this seemingly irrelevant development help Crizlanek find Crystal's killer? Order this unforgettable tale of mobsters, mayhem, and Madison and find out.
