Award-winning writer of humor, the Robert Benchley Society Award among others. But sometimes humor with grit.


Background Information

Ed is from Philadelphia. He currently lives in Mexico. He has published seven works of fiction, most of which are comic novels or novellas. He’s also a playwright and screenwriter and has won a host of awards for humor. His humor has been published in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, England, Italy and Australia.

Parlor Games. First published full-length play. (Eldridge Play Publishing, 2013)

God’s Creatures… or Darwin’s? A collection of comic essays on the controversial subject, done in the voices and styles of America’s greatest comic icons.

Apocalypse Now… Grab the Karoake Machine. Comic novel about a couple who inadvertently and clumsily foils a bioweapon attack. (September, 2011)

The Fables of Leonardo da Vinci. Ten fables fleshed in from annotations in the great genius’s notebooks. For readers of all ages.

Autobiography of a Worm. Novel. Man fraught with depression descends into murder and madness.

Lub Dub. Novel. Runaway donor heart is sidetracked when delivery team driver sees girlfriend with another lover.

The Fishing Trip That Got Away. Novella. Comic misadventure in the wilderness that ends in redemption and discovery for both principal characters.

Return of the Lost Horses. Metaphysical romance that takes place over many lifetimes.

Due out in 2015 is a comic novella about Columbus’s voyage of discovery called “Good Morning, Why is Everyone Here Naked?”

Awards and considerations: Awarded grand prize in the 2011 Screenplay Search Competition (Vinegar and Brown Paper). Official Finalist in 2014 American Movie Awards (Truthers). Also reached the semi-finalist group (3%) in the Page International screenwriting competition. Winner of the prestigious Robert Benchley Society Humor-writing Award for 2009 (also runner-up three years in a row--judged by Dave Barry), among other U.S. humor awards and honors. His work has been anthologized in several humor publications, including America’s Funniest Humor, 2006. He was also a member of Democrats Abroad where he did public relations and promotions for B. Obama, including a fund-raising production of his own one-act play about FDR.

Honored with a request to write the analysis of the very original humor of Robert Benchley, who had influenced so many humorists and comedians of the 20th Century.

I also wrote a humor column or Ojo del Lago, Mexico's largest English-speaking magazine for two and a half years.

I was asked by the Robert Benchley Society to write an analysis of arguably the most influential voice in 20th Century humor for a special reprint edition of Robert Benchley's early essays.
