Former copywriter and copy chief in advertising, now writing poetry, short stories, novels to please me not the clients. Had poetry published in literary magazines when I was very young... they have all disappeared, but I am still here, and still writing. As an active craftswoman, I designed, wrote patterns and had them published in several magazines such as Woman's Day.
Through my mother, a poet, I met many writers who proved to be influences: Gladys Schmitt, Catherine Ann Porter, Langston Hughes, Padriac Collum and many others. Gladys urged me to keep writing, but it was hard to write copy all day and then write my work at night, with two children particularly. However, I remembered what all of them told me and went back to writing when i retired. Further, I love what Stephen King has to say about writing.
I rarely have writer's block, and have hundreds of poems that have not been sent out, so I hope to get myself organized this year and at least try for a chapbook.
