Growing up in Guyana, a former British colony, Janet Naidu's poems ride on the grand waterways of her heritage. Knowing the scent of Guyana's rainforest and now having lived in Canada for 35 years, Naidu's poetry is also situated in Canada, permeating the flavours of both places that she calls 'roots'. Her poems traces migration, resettlement and survival.

"Sacred Silence" was launched at an event, celebrating literary works and the arts in September 2009 in Toronto.
This collection was also launched in Guyana in February, 2010.
