Tacoma businessman, philanthropist and community leader, Kurt Mayer, has written a rags to riches story of his life and times. “My Personal Brush with History,” written with Joe Peterson, is a story of hardship, opportunity, triumphs, mistakes, family and faith.
My book is intended to give my grandchildren – ages 12, 11 and 8 – an opportunity to read, later in life, about what many believe has been an incredible journey. It can also be a study for those who are interested in the Holocaust and an inspiration for those who wish to prosper financially in business.
The proceeds from this book benefit Pacific Lutheran University's Holocaust studies program. I so firmly believe that the horrors of the Holocaust must never be repeated that along with my family and a family friend, we've made the first steps to fund Holocaust education in an unlikely but perfectly suited place.
The education students receive at PLU will ensure the future for my grandchildren and yours. You have a chance to help support Holocaust education when you purchase my book. For seventy years I did not tell all that has happened to me. Now, I'm telling my story and invite you to join me in supporting Holocaust education.

I'm currently having my book translated into German and researching the estate of the baron Paul von Neindorff who helped my parents and me escape Nazi Germany on one of the last boats out. We hope to have him declared a righteous Gentile through Yad Vashem. The German edition of my book will include the research to date.
