“With characters so real they seem to be made of breath and bone, Campbell draws us into the nucleus of this Appalachian family as if we are relatives. We feel their heartaches and yearn for their healing as though our own happiness depends on theirs. This is Southern fiction at its finest." ---Sandra Kring, Book of Bright Ideas

Additional Information

“If I were to name all the friends and loved-ones I have lost to cancer over the years, I’d have to write a list that would take up just about as many pages as any novel I could ever write. Cancer has become common, too common, but that doesn’t mean it’s right and that doesn’t mean that we should sit by and accept it. It became all too familiar for me when my dad was diagnosed with lung cancer back in January of this year. I thought of all the friends I had seen walk through this, and I wanted to do something. I guess you could say my heart was sincerely burdened. That’s when I felt strongly impressed to designate the proceeds from the novel I was working on at the time to Adair County Relay for Life. I dedicate this book to my dad, William Henry Franklin, from Flatwoods, Kentucky. He has spent his life helping people and he has taught me the value of true friendship, of what it means to keep your word when you give it, of how family is more important than money and love is a four letter word for willful sacrifice.”
