Gabriela Popa was born and raised in Romania. In 1992 she won a Fogarty International Fellowship that allowed her to come to the U.S. to perform cancer research.
She has written and published short stories in both Romanian and English. In 2003 she studied fiction writing with novelist Rick Skwiot at the Washington University Summer Writers Institute.
Her first novel is "Kafka's House", a coming of age story set in 1968 Romania.
