Jim Vesely was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. He relocated to New Mexico in 1988 and began writing both novels and non-fiction after retiring from a long career in the advertising field. He is a member of the Western Writers of America, the New Mexico Book Association, and the Southwest Writer's Workshop. Jim is an avid traveler, fresh and saltwater fisherman, and scuba diver.

Published works include: "Seasons of Harvest," "The Awakening Land," and "Shadows on the Land," a three-volume historical fiction trilogy set in the Corrales Valley of New Mexico. In addition, Jim has published "Unlike Any Land You Know," a non-fiction account of the 490th Bomb Squadron - the Burma Bridge Busters - in the China-Burma-India Theater of WWII, "Coon Creek," A Novel of the Mississippi Bottoms, "Journey," the story of an immigrant Czech family in Chicago and Central Montana at the turn of the century. His latest novel is "Lonesome Whistle Blow," a sequel to "Coon Creek."
