I am a beginner (rookie) author who has spent years enjoying the peace that my personal journaling has given me. Life is funny because as we approach our adult life, we have set plans, goals and dreams for ourself. Many of us see the fruition of those plans, goals and dreams and the rest of us end up where life places us, the opposite of our plans. I am an educated female who was born and raised in Queens, NY and moved to the south during the mid 80's. My plans, goals and dreams were to pursue a career in the medical field because the medical profession always seemed to be a magnet for me. In my early twenties I pursued the medical profession of respiratory therapy, that didn't work and I never completed my degree. Another career path in the medical profession that I focused my attention in was Health Information Management. I graduated and wasn't able to find meaningful employment in the Health Information Management profession. Since I had a drive to be in the medical profession, during the years of pursuing the first two medical careers, I worked at various medical facilities. After three kids (boys) and a divorce I needed to make a change and go further in my medical career. For my children, I went back to school and obtained my Bachelors in Business and my Masters in Public Health. During this time I felt like I was on top of the world because I overcame a divorce, a single parent raising three boys with a career in the Pharmaceutical Sales Industry. Due to the many experiences in life and getting older, I felt like I wasn't doing enough in the world. I needed to do more, I needed to make a difference. During the time that I started to feel this way, I began to journal. My journal consisted of my private thoughts, experiences, it was a way for me to escape and to also get a first hand look at God's hand over my life. During Januray 2010, I asked God to resurrect any hidden talents and gifts that I have not put to use. I wanted this resurrection to take place so that God's kingdom can be blessed. So, instantly God gave me the title of children's books to write because so many of African American children are reading below their reading level or cannot read at all. So, it is my God given task/duty to write a series of children's books to put back the spark and interest in our youth. My series will consist of stories that will interest our youth which will and can expand their interest as they get older. If books are written that spark their interest, then their level of comprehension will increase as well as their confidence. That is my goal, and I pray that statistics for African American youth not reading will decrease. Look for my first book "What Mommy Does" a book that views the role of a mother from the eyes of a child.
P.S. My three boys are my motivation as well as ALL African American youth:)
