Writing, great for menopause, but even better for the soul!

Background Information

As you can probably see, I am new to fiction writing. Many, many moons ago, I began writing publicity pieces for a government agency and produced nightly news shows for two radio stations. I quickly discovered that I didn't like radio and  I didn't like PR. So, to keep the roof over my head, I went back to working at the bank.  I continued to write news articles every now and then for community papers just to maintain my writing skills.  But, even that fell by the wayside after a while.  During that time, I did the traditional thing expected of a woman and created a family, complete with husband.  That lasted as long as my radio career.  And, guess what? I didn't like marriage either. (That might be a book itself one day.)

Nevertheless, twenty plus years have passed since that time, and finally, I found something I really like, creative writing.  For many years, I watched ordinary people live their lives daily in ways that did nothing to encourage their happiness. Then, one day, out of the blue, something happens that changes everything they had ever known to be true. Now faced with their new, unyielding "truth," they must choose to change and live, or to stagnate and die. These are the life lessons reflected in many of my stories. A moralist, I'm not!  I am an observer of human dyanmics.  My story goal is to uncover the hidden motivations and consequences of our human interactions. My stories were never meant to be of the traditionally templated variety, but insightful, thought-provoking, and just plain fun.  I also have in outline form other "real life"-based stories could scare the pants off Freddy Kruger.

These are some of the questions I ask when I sit down to write a story.

What drives a woman to leave her husband and children behind to run off with an exciting new lover?  What moves a man away from his wife and into the arms of another man? Have women allowed themselves to be bought and paid for in marriage and other legally binding arrangements? If so, at what price? Are men doing the same?  Where did the idea of little girls as sex objects originate? Is it just a sex crime or a practice so embedded in two, three or four millenia of tradition that the law is powerless to stop it? Does God really exist or have we been deceived for the last 2,000 years by those in power who want to keep it?  Ideas such as these and others flow in through my head and out to the keyboard.  I promise that my stories are going to be entertaining, thought-provoking and anything but subtle.

Happy Reading!
