Let me expand on the thought of painting with words. I was always encouraged to be a painter and though I do occasionally paint - I prefer to do it with words. My favorite genre is Romance but the sub-genres is what makes the plots - like science fiction, fantasy, almost anything paranormal and more recently I’ve tried my muse in the contemporary genre and received good reviews on those pieces.
I now live in North Carolina and I love it here. I’ve found it to be more stimulating to my imagination. When it comes down to it, Florida was good for that too but only when I was at the beach, near the water, out hiking on the Savannahs or on one of the trails through a wood hammock or a swamp. Swamps are really beautiful places.
Now, here in North Carolina we live minutes from the Blue Ridge so I just look out the window of my office walk down the gravel road to the stream that’s a few hundred feet away and ZAP inspiration! The weather is wonderful. It doesn’t matter if it’s cold and snowing – the mountain just outside and across the valley is covered in white or dressed in fog. Or clear, cool with the stars out and the moon rising. NO HEAT well a little in summer. Here my imagination is freer.
My favorite axiom has always been one that came to me while riding my bicycle down south – Imagination is the first stage of escapism. I’ve found it to be so true – with your imagination in play you can escape almost anything – though that has been tested recently and I really had to concentrate to use it. However, we all have to keep in mind, where would the human race be without our imaginations? It sets us apart from all other creatures on the planet – at least so far. I do believe the apes may be catching up … Now there’s an idea for a story – oh wait – that’s been done already, shoot! Maybe it’s time to get out the oil paints. Actually I like working with a photo shop art program on my computer – possibly I need a more powerful computer next. My lap top has issues with that program – it gives it indigestion. LOL.
As for writing – that will never end. I have far too many stories in my head that are all attempting to sneak out – at once. Between aliens, dragons and the alternative history plots that keep attempting to break out it gets a little strange at times. Then there are those really great plot lines my dear daughter has given me. She swears she’ll never be a writer but she comes up with the most wonderful story ideas then promptly turns them over to me. Keep up – all of you, they are coming. I just have to write faster and do all my other hobbies – less... Darn, I wanted to sew a new dress. Oh well I’ll go buy one like ever one else.
