There's an old idea that every novel is at least partly autobiographical and I suppose Cally's World is no exception to that rule.  I grew up in a pretty tough area and I took piano lessons:  unlike Cally, though, I never quite had the chance to attend a Viennese Ball. 

I have worked as a freelance features writer for UK magazines. In addition to my first published book - Cally's World - I have written a full length screenplay called Shadows which is just waiting for Peter Jackson to come and along and discover it!

Cally Meredith is one extremely unhappy teenager. Her parents are in the middle of a divorce; she's had to move to a new area which she thinks is the pits; and the kids at her new school all hate her. Cally's life is a mess and she desperately needs a friend. What she wants more than anything, though, is to escape from the life she has: she wants to be somewhere different. With the help of her music teacher, Cally does just that, but gets slightly more than she bargains for as she's introduced to a world of unfamiliar places, of music, of tradition, and of friends. It's a world Cally can only dream of.
