Leon Hostetler authored This Book - the book that talks a lot about itself, under the pseudonym Dr. Anonymous Smarty-pants.
Born to Amish parents in Missouri, Hostetler received only the eighth-grade Amish education. While still a boy, his family moved to Montana and there he acquired a love of the outdoors while teaching himself all about science and technology with their 28-book encyclopedia set that was twenty years outdated.
Upon reaching the age of 18, Hostetler left the Amish tradition, bought a truck, a laptop, and an internet subscription and began teaching himself everything from bookkeeping and internet marketing to graphic design and software development.
In 2007, Hostetler moved to Florida where he worked as an e-commerce manager for a furniture manufacturer and in 2009 he helped found The Pinecraft Pauper, a print-only community publication oriented toward Amish/Mennonite readers in Pinecraft (Sarasota), Florida. It didn't take long for The Pinecraft Pauper to be featured on several blogs and to gain international readership (but according to Hostetler, it's only because of the writing wit of founder and editor Daniel Fisher). Hostetler was a writer and the publisher for the first season and the puzzle designer for the first and subsequent seasons.
Hostetler is a skeptic and an associate member of the International Society for Philosophical Enquiry and he spends his free time writing, solving and creating intellectual puzzles, and developing software applications.
Hostetler has been strongly influenced by writers such as Mark Twain, Lewis Carroll, Edwin A. Abbott, and Douglas R. Hofstadter.
