Author and illustrator of children's books. Also illustrates for other authors. Writes adventure novels based on personal scuba diving experiences.

Background Information

While in high school, I began doing artist concepts for architects. By the time I graduated this became a big business. I took a year of mechanical drafting from a tech school and five days after graduation, joined the Air Force. This was during the Viet Nam war. Because I was a draftsman and illustrator I was assigned as staff artist for Tactical Air Command, stationed at Langley AFB in Virginia. Stayed there the entire 4 years preparing artist concepts of top secret aircraft. I worked side by side with several of the top artists in the military. Couldn't have paid for a better art school. Eight hours a day, for four years of "practical experience."  After the Air Force, I moved to Charleston, SC where I became art director for the publications department of the Medical University. I designed all publications for the eight colleges in the university system. After two years, a friend in Raleigh, NC said the state was building three marine science museums and aquariums and needed a director for design and construction of all dry exibits. This required a masters degree or equivalent experience. I got the job based on my experience. I became an underwater photographer and, ran an underwater search and rescue team. I was invited from time to time to underwater archaeology sites to dive and prepare illustrations. Many diving experiences, some very strange, led me to write my first novel. My wife and I moved to the mountains of NC 29 years ago where we run our own art studio. I started writing and illustrating children's books sixteen years ago. I now have three children's books published and one novel. Working on "many" more. I also illustrate books of all kinds from very technical to children's books as well as book covers for other authors. I plan to do this for the rest of my life. I also still do aviation art and have several paintings in aviation museums. After completing a painting of the plane that president George Bush Sr. was flying when he was shot down in WWII, the white house staff invited me to present it to him in the oval office.
