I have been writing on and off since childhood but only had time to make a serious commitment to the craft on retirement from the day job. I like to write informative non-fiction in subject areas where I believe I have greater knowlege than my potential readers and where my aim is to share that knowlege. My fiction is intended to entertain the reader whilst exploring less well known aspects of history.
My own life experiences and those of friends and acquaintances are significant influences as are the many excellent writers whose work I admire. Robert Fisk and George Monbiot inspire my non-fiction writing. Ian McEwan, Charles Dickens, Ray Bradbury and John McGahern are just four of the fiction writers to whom I would be proud to be likened.
