Writer, reader, kid lit maven. Fan of history, old buildings, steam-punk novels, and spiders, frogs, and snakes!

Background Information

I am a writer of both fiction and nonfiction for children and young adults.  I’m especially interested in history and have written on subjects ranging from the ancient Aztecs to contemporary American architecture.  My picture books include Ben and the Emancipation Proclamation and The Sun’s Daughter.  You can find out more about my writing at my website and also read of few of my original stories.

I've also become something of an architecture maven.  If you're interested in some cool buildings please visit my blog,
Cool Building of the Week.

For the past several years I've lived  in Cambridge, Massachusetts,
where I teach creative writing to adults.  In my earlier life I worked as an archivist for a number of museums and libraries.  In my old(er) age, I  still like to haunt museums and libraries whenever possible.

Accomplishments

2011 Once Upon a World Children's Book Award from the Simon Wiesenthal Museum of Tolerance.

Additional Information

I will be signing copies of my children's picture book, "Ben and the Emancipation Proclamation," along with illustrator Floyd Cooper, this September 22, at Pages of the Past bookstore in Gettysburg, PA. The whole town will be celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Proclamation of Emancipation. Pennsylvania's Civil War Road Show will be there too, with events for kids and adults throughout the week-end. Please drop by!

Cool Building of the Week
A blog about architecture, past and present, far and wide. Each week I feature a different building along with a short essay on what makes it so cool. I also have occasional updates on what's doing in the architectural world, including awards, new works, and links to articles of interest.
