I have been writing poetry my entire life. My first poem was at the ripe age of three.
Since then, I have expanded my vocabulary!
Please check out our new book, Alphabet Living, co-written by me (Dr. Bee) and my husband (Hobo Dan).
TWO BIRTHS: A CHILD & A BOOK
Alphabet Living emerged while I was pregnant with our son, Julien. While preparing for his arrival, we began looking for children's books that conveyed themes of decency, mindfulness, and strength. Finding no alphabet book that tapped into the concepts we wanted to actively champion as parents, we decided to take matters into our own hands—for as the saying goes, when you want something done, do it yourself. And with that, we began writing Alphabet Living.
After an extremely difficult birth, and exhausted from the intensity of the experience, including the relief that Julien was going to be OK, we made a promise that we would realize Alphabet Living beyond our original intentions, scope, and vision. Julien's rough entry awakened something in the both of us. We came face-to-face with the duality of Life's fragility and Its potent force. We knew we had to step up our game in general, which also meant producing a book that was beyond compare. None of us are here for long, so why not do our best?
Alphabet Living has evolved into a playful and sincere inspirational book, guided by a seed-like intention: It is our hope that the more you read it and/or hear its poems, the more its concepts and ideas will take root. Yes, it is an alphabet book, but within its covers is a layout of verse and imagery that inspires art-poetry-song-thoughtful conversation, etc. One reviewer referred to it as an "emotional literacy handbook—it engages and inspires ideas and creativity. It is not just a new alphabet book." Thanks for the kind words, J.S.!
Although we have future plans for other Alphabet Living fruit (e.g., computer application, etc.), what is of the utmost importance to us, is to print the first edition hardcover version.
We firmly believe there is no substitute for holding a good old fashioned book in your hands—snuggling up with a child and reading together, feeling the paper as you turn each page, being comforted by all of the fond memories a physical book evokes, and creating new memories with others.
Written and illustrated for people of all ages, Alphabet Living fosters meaningful reading experiences. It was created in such a way that parents and children will enjoy reading and learning from it.
Anyone can grow and evolve via the alphabet.
