I forgot what I was going to say ....

Background Information

My father always dreamed of writing a book. He had a remarkable memory right up to his death at age 87, and for 70 of those years he wrote his book. But it never reached paper.

Mine did.

I was born in November 1926. I was a very active child. (Some say I caused the Great Depression, but they’re wrong.) I came to California from Oklahoma just before Pearl Harbor. (No! I did not cause World War II.)

I’m a voracious reader and history buff. My passion is art.

I served in the army after WWII and returned to active duty during the war in Korea. After my discharge, I attended the University of California at Berkeley and the Academy of Art in San Francisco.

After struggling through some lean years as a door-to-door salesman, my wife, Daisy, and I became successful restaurateurs, and I developed my own business. Throughout all this, I pursued my painting, working in oil, water color, and charcoal.

I have cheated death several times, most notably during my military service and in to-the-death bouts with cancer. Twice.

Now retired, Daisy and I lead active lives in Southern California where we are near our children. Writing, painting, and keeping up with Daisy keep me as busy as I want to be.

Birth Place
Henrietta, OK United States

My book, Death of a Paperman, was published in 2009, and has not been on the New York Times best-seller list ever since.

Additional Information

Iím currently working on a narrative non-fiction book about my family, beginning with my paternal and maternal grandparents, then recounting the amalgamation of the two branches. The paternal branch is most notable for its roots: The line began when William Randolph came to Virginia from England in 1673. He married Mary Isham, and they became known as the Adam and Eve of Virginia. My line descended from their son, Richard Randolph of Curles, who married Jane Boling, Great-granddaughter of Pocahontas. William and Maryís other descendants included several prominent political figures, most notable among them were John Marshall, First Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, and Thomas Jefferson, Author of the Declaration of Independence and President of the United States. Sadly, the family has come down a bit. We havenít had a United States president in...I donít know how long. My maternal grandfather, George A. Knight, II, was a fascinating man, and it is his life that inspired me to begin this book, A Knight in the Country.

Death of a Paperman
This intriguing story begins and ends on a lonely desert road. But between these quiet settings we see the destruction of a manís sanity. This is a suspenseful and fast-moving thriller about what happens when an ordinary man, Sam Morgan, finds the legendary pot of gold, a fortune that is his for the taking -- until someone tries to take it away from him. Sam is a man alone by choice, a man in control of his life and his emotions, presenting to the world only the friendly charm and easy acquaintance of the successful salesman. But when he is challenged, when he is subjected to humiliation and torture, when his very life is threatened, his control is shattered, and the rage that he has always kept so carefully hidden erupts and unleashes all the intensity of his long-buried feelings. Fury, greed, hate, and love: all have surfaced, and we see Sam Morgan's struggle to reconcile the dark and the light of a mind torn apart. Do you know your dark side? Would you want to?

A Knight in the Country (In progress)
