At 79 I'm still writing books, flying my plane, and scuba diving. I'm now living year-round on Chokoloskee Island, Florida and signing copies of my books at the 100 year old Smallwood Trading Post when I'm not traveling on a book-signing tour. If you're ever in this area (30 miles east of Naples, Florida turn south on SR-29 and drop by. After visiting Everglades City (where several thousand ton

Background Information

After years wandering the Caribbean and Bahamas aboard my crawfish boat (Yankees call 'em lobsters) loaded with crawfish traps, I tired of the gun battles with pirates (we just called 'em thieves) and returned to Florida. My long time friend and partner soon followed me in his crawfish boat. We settled in Everglades City and began trapping stone crabs. We all thought we'd found the mythical Shan-gri-la, and it could have been, except for one small fact that we weren't aware of until after we had bought homes, new boats, airplanes, and had built thousands of traps...Everglades City was the southern hub of drug smuggling. A few years later my ex-partner and best friend went to prison. My wife, Dottie (died 2002) and I boarded our plane and went to Jamaica, instead. (damn near every male in Chokoloskee and Everglades City over 18 went to prison) He did sixteen years in federal prison, but is out now and back to trapping crawfish and stone crabs. In Jamaica I started writing again, and eventually decided to write the true story of our years battling pirates, some of which never made it home. The book also covers those drug smuggling years that ended our time in Shan-gri-la. I titled the book BLUE WATER ADVENTURE, but so many people thought it was a book about 'catching fishies' , that I renamed it DARK CARIBBEAN, and it took off. I've always loved writing, so I started another book about a young Irish boy leaving Ireland in the late 18th century and settling in America. I'm Irish and had that book floating around in my head for many years, so I'm happy that it received so much praise. Book revues compared it to a combination of  Lonesome Dove & Little House on the Prairie. After receiving 100+ emails asking for a sequel, I began writing it. I recently finished THE McKANNAHS ~together again~ and it's outselling all of my books.

I completed my 13th book, a novel titled, UNINVITED, by January 2013. It's about the pythons that are wiping out most of the birds and animals in the Everglades. While finishing that book, I researched and visited museums to begin a novel about the Calusa begins in 12,000 BP (Before Present) in what is now known as Siberia....CALUSA ~warriors from a distant past~ is now finished and available here at the trading post, or directly from me.

--I'm having my Webmaster lower the prices of all my books, and will soon offer them all as eBooks on my website. Sept/2014 My book,CALUSA ~warriors from a distant past~ is now available and is selling like white lightning at a redneck reunion. My last previous book, Uninvited, is a novel centered around the pythons that are wiping out the animals in our Everglades. Many birds have already left, because pythons, even newborn, love eggs. I'm currently working on a trilogy titled 2084 ~ a world in ashes ~

Dark Caribbean
This book is a novelized version of the true story that my friend for half a century, and partner for many years, and myself lived through...we trapped crawfish ... (Yankees call theirs' lobster but they look more like crabs to us) ... in traps along the southern coasts of Florida... we were plagued by thieves from the beginning, but one made the others seem like amateurs...he stole many thousands of dollars worth of crawfish during his thieving career...WHICH ENDED one day at sea with a bullet in his heart ...that true story, and another about scuba diving thieves, is in the early pages of the book...we decided to buy big offshore boats with freezers and take our traps into the Caribbean and Bahamas to get away from the thieves ...that was our dream, but it only put a new name on an old problem...pirates were thicker out there than thieves were back home...we returned and armed both vessels with war weapons... somehow, after several years we brought ourselves and our crewmen home in one piece...all of the pirates we encountered did not make it home...we decided to bring our 3000 traps back to Florida and find a place to trap for a living without maintaining a lethal arsenal to protect our traps and livelihood...we are both licensed airplane pilots, so while he and his crew brought the traps back to Florida, my wife (died 2002) and I climbed in our plane and began searching the southwest coast of Florida...after spending 3 days in Everglades City, we returned to Riviera Beach where we docked our boats. I told my pal and his crew, "Dottie and I found our Shan-gri-la, boys." ... I believe it would have been too, EXCEPT for something we didn't know until we were all set up and had begun stone crab trapping...Everglades City was, at that time, the marijuana smuggling capitol of the southern United States...and the rest is history...most of the men living in Everglades City & Chokoloskee went to prison...Dottie and I climbed in our plane and headed south. We lived in Montego Bay, Jamaica and Nicaragua until the frenzy to lock up all of the evil herbal importers subsided.

The McKannahs
Sean McKannah leaves Ireland while still just a boy...he had just lost his parents in a house old sea captain takes Sean aboard his trading vessel...he becomes a man during those few years at sea...Sean leaves the sea in San's early 19th century when he teams with a Spaniard his age, Francisco, and together they go into the mountains to trap beaver. But Frank's uncle in San Diego lures the two young men to his huge ranch... they join the ranch-hands to capture wild horses...they encounter Apaches, but are able to bring enough horses back to the ranch to satisfy Frank's uncle...Sean eventually goes back north to build a sheep ranch...he marries Frank's beautiful sister and they provide the struggling new country with 5 sons and 1 daughter...2 boys, Patrick & Broderick go to the new Harvard Law School to become lawyers and return to California...Simon becomes a Texas Ranger...Ian's love of gambling pays off and he opens the best gambling palace in the west...Jesse remains with the land and great outdoors he loves and lives among the Flathead Indians ...Their sister, Aleena follows her brothers east and enters college to become a schoolteacher...adventure and tragedy enters all of their lives, but Aleena encounters more than her share have compared this novel to a combination of Lonesome Dove and Little House on the Prairie, which pleased me greatly, because I loved both of those stories. --October 2014...I'm having my Aussie Webmaster lower the prices of all my books, and will soon offer them all as eBooks on my website. NOTE: She's having health problems, but will soon be back home, and will update my website ASAP.

The McKannahs ~together again~
This sequel to The McKannahs picks up where the story ended...once again the McKannah boys come together to 'right-a-wrong' being done to their Native American friends...readers of both have praised the sequel...they were also thrilled and surprised to see a twist that changed what they thought was a sad fact into a more pleasant ending.
