As a little girl, I used to go on holiday with my parents to a place called Colwyn Bay, in North Wales, UK, where the mountians mysterioulsy came down to the sea. There were glorious stories at bed-time. I dreamt of being a writer.
It took some years. I became interested in languages and was determined to learn them well enough to communicate clearly ... and more importantly to read yet more wonderul stories in those languages.
For many years I taught those languages to young people. I carried on collecting stories. At last, I started to write - at first, because my own children ran out of bed-time stories when we were holidaying in the South of Spain. There also the mountians come mysteriously down to the sea... and a host of strange things began to happen.
Recently, I had cause also to go back to North Wales, where I spent some time focussing on my writing.
My own favourite authors include J K Rowling, Philip Pullman, C S Lewis (the Narnia chronicles), Stephen King and Maeve Binchy.
Generally, I like anything which is well written or which tells a story where there is a suggestion of there being a great mystery behind life, or which solves that mystery for us.
Birth Place: West Bromwich, England
Accomplishments: MA in Writing for Children (King Alfred's College, Winchester, UK, 2000)
