For me there is only the traveling on paths that have heart. . .And there I travel looking, looking, breathlessly. ~Don Juan

Background Information

Greetings from the beautiful and environmentally aware (usually) Pacific Northwest of the USA. I live with my wise and wonderful spouse, Joyce, near Portland, Oregon.

Where we are now, the drawing of breath, and possibly our relationship to the metaphor of thankfulness is really all that matters, but in the interests of ancient history, my autobiography follows.

I graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a degree in English Literature. I have postgraduate course work in both education and business.

However, my true education has occurred as a result of studying and participating in various spiritual paths, meditation, and substantial readings in world literature, science, religion, psychology, natural medicine, metaphysics and astrology.

My education would not be complete without mentioning our dog (Cocker Spaniel/Beagle mix), Taffetta, who has imparted to us the incredible worth of a good roll in the grass and the higher values of the fierce but benign interrelationships inherent in the pack.

Our cat, Ram, requests equal time. He's a black beauty who purrs almost all of the time, enjoys thundering through the house or perching on the lavatory while we are showering and otherwise getting ready to go to work. His calmness(usually!!)and oh so powerful sleep inspires us to go inside, to meditate, to be still.

My spouse, Joyce, is literally the "light of my life." Some people call her a "little Buddha," a moniker with which I heartily agree. We have been together going on 17 years, and I wish for everyone the enduring and heartfelt love of our close relationship.

I was struck early on by the English poets, Keats, Houseman, Yeats and of course, Shakespeare. American literature has always been a strong influence where I love the works of Whitman, Ferlinghetti, Cummings, Eliot and many others. I have enjoyed the novels and stories of Hemingway, Faulkner, Vonnegut, Wolfe and many others.

I make my living as a technical writer, specializing in documentation for software toolkits and other writing for engineers as well as producing manuals and Windows help files for various computer end-users. However, my dharma has led me down many paths, and I have variously made my living as a social worker, photographer and journalist.

I write essays, poems and short stories, have attempted a novel or two and have published in several periodicals online and in print. I am currently working on a book of inspirational nonfiction, a novel and as alway, poetry. I also have had several showings of my photographs.

My hobbies are reading, nature, stargazing, walking and hiking, photography, gardening, computing and the Internet.  And, yes, you will probably find me in some fit of contemplation most days (or nights).
