"Whatever is already in us at birth we find again in stories...and in the flight of the goose."

Background Information

Grew up in the Alaskan Arctic and the Pacific Northwest in a huge multicultural family

Learned (still learning) traditional subsistence ways of living off the land and sea

Researched the effects of oil spills on arctic salt marsh, prime migratory bird habitat

Studied indigenous and ancient cultures and ecosystems; lived and worked in many societies on Earth

Taught at universities

Published writer of fiction (long and short), nonfiction article, poetry

Interested in social and environmental justice, prehistory, archetypes, all the arts and storytelling...well, there is hardly anything I am not interested in.

Accomplishments

Flight of the Goose: A Story of the Far North is used as a textbook at Boston University and the University of Alaska

It won first place in the National Federation of Press Women Communications Contest, the Washington Press Association
Communicator of Excellence Contest, first place in the Alaska Press Women Communications Contest and was nominated for the Pacific Northwest Bookseller Award (Finalist)

My work appears in "The Northern Review Journal", "Sacred Hoops" and "Cold Flashes" anthology

Taught at the Kachemak Writers Conference in Alaska

Very happy to see a good review in Austrian newspaper "Die Presse" and to learn my book was read by Sami in Norway, Aboriginal tribes in AU, Blackfoot Indian community college students and even someone in Washington DC: the goose has flown far across the Earth.

Additional Information

Flight of the Goose is now in Kindle edition and also is available free on a "scholarship" for those with economic hardship: contact me. Current project: speculative fiction of the near future, with climate change and ecological (and societal) collapse/transition
