I began writing poetry at the tender age of 8. Continued to write throughout school and on into audulthood and marriage. I began writing stories at a later age. I credit God as my ElShadi, giver of the gifts and talents of literature. My motivations stem from my upbringing of 2 mamas in the house. My Great-grandmother (Big Mama) and my mother, both who provided me with stories and anecdotes that gives me the basis of my poetry and prose. Also, growing up in the upstate of SC in the 50s and 60s, in a small neighborhood full of funny characters and situations gave me the background for some of the stories I now pen. The writers of the Bible also has given me insight into writig and Jesus with His teachings through Parables of metaphoric genius. I am literally inspired by the works of Carribean poet and author, Dr. Kwame Dawes and by such craftsman as Langston Hughes and Nikki Giovoni.
