One of the joys of writing is being able to create situations simply by pressing the keys on my computer. To have a mental picture of the characters originate in my mind and transfer to the pages, taking on characteristics I give them, is hard to describe. I am able to be involved in my characters lives simply by writing the words.
I am 59 years old and have been married for 34 of them. I have walked with the Lord for all of the years of my marriage and probably have failed Him as many, or more times than David. Not that I would care to repeat my mistakes, but it has certainly given me many lessons in God's grace the same as David learned in his lifetime. Same God - same grace.
As part of a Sunday morning message, the pastor made several references to David, king of Judah. It struck me that as much as I had heard about David over the years, I actually knew very little about him as a man. David was flesh and blood the same as the rest of us. He had his ups and downs, his triumphs and his failures. The one point that sticks out in my mind about him is when the Lord referred to himself as the 'Son of David.' David loved the Lord and the Lord loved him, even if David failed at times. What hope for the rest of us!
"David, God's Kind" is a fictionalized story. The people I added are primarily an advisor to Saul, a friend of David, and a few minor characters. I have given no physical description of them because their only function is to have dialogue with Saul and David in order for the reader to have a better feel for who these men were. Their presence in the actual story of David could easily be true.
