Marty looked sharply at the door, his breath held in his chest.
The door shattered into a thousand wooden pieces as it flew in every direction striking Marty as he shielded his face. Margarete stood on the threshold, her face white, as worms edged their way out from beneath the sagging skin. She opened her mouth to cry out, and a deluge of white, squiggling worms fell to the ground at her feet.
Marty screamed hysterically, pressing his back to the wall. This thing that stood before him couldn’t be Margarete. It barely resembled a human being. The skin was stretched and hanging off her exposed skeleton, wriggling worms falling to the floor to be crushed beneath her feet as she walked towards Marty. Her eyes were oozing yellow pus as they glared at him, fixing him in place with their dark depths, spewing forth venomous hatred, hatred that was centered entirely on Marty Boggs.
Marty tried to swallow, and his breath caught in his throat on the knot of fear securely lodged there. His voice cracked hoarsely. “Stay away from me.”
Margarete threw her head back and laughed wildly, worms spewing forth in every direction. A rotten stench emanated from her, a sickening sweet smell that turned Marty’s stomach, making him gag. Her hand shot out, its bone-exposed fingers gripping tightly around Marty’s neck, squeezing the life from his body.
“You’re no match for me, boy.” She seethed with a note of triumph as Marty’s vision began to dim. He fought to keep conscious, his legs kicked desperately as she lifted him high, face-to-face....
