Alex Marcoux is a bestselling and award-winning novelist and New Thought author. Her novels dabble into metaphysical concepts.

Background Information

While Alex Marcoux is a scientist by education and training, after being moved by discrimination against gays and lesbians, she traded in her lab coat for a laptop and began writing. She writes lesbian fiction, paranormal mysteries and suspense thrillers. Additionally she is a bestselling New Thought author.

Alex Marcoux never aspired to be a writer. In her youth she wanted to be a police detective, but somehow her Leominster High School counselor convinced her she had the aptitude for science and she headed off to the University of Massachusetts, at Amherst. There she received a B.S. in Food Science, and quickly ended up in a General Foods lab where as a food technologist, she was instrumental in the product development of Crystal Light ... the first "great tasting" diet soft drink. Years later, she worked for Jeffrey Wigand, The Insider from the tobacco industry as a development chemist for Brown & Williamson Tobacco Company. In the midst of a controversial project, Marcoux resigned from this position in 1991, never returning to conventional research.

As it turns out, food scientist wasn't the only hat Alex would wear. She has worked in product development, technical sales, marketing and has owned and operated businesses.

In all her endeavors though, something was missing in her life and it came to light from conflict. She moved to Colorado in 1991 at the dawn of the anti-GLBT initiative, Amendment 2. With the hateful political climate, came the inspiration for her first book, Façades. While at one time she thought of Amendment 2 as dreadful, today she realizes how meaningful it was, as it was the impetus to set her on a spiritual journey. Façades was published by The Haworth Press and Alex received a Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers Pen Award for its publication.

Alex's second novel, Back to Salem has been dubbed a "gender-bending thriller" and is a Lambda Literary Award Finalist for best lesbian mystery. The sophomore novel was also an InsightOut Book Club selection. The novel drew the attention of Atlantis Moon Productions, an independent film company which expressed interest in making Back to Salem: The Short Film. Alex's script was selected for the project and the film was produced to support the development of a feature-length version of Back to Salem, which is in development.

Her third novel, A Matter of Degrees is a suspense thriller featuring Jessie Mercer, her protagonist from Back to Salem. The book was selected as a Golden Crown Literary Award Finalist, as well as a Gaylactic Spectrum Award Nominee for speculative fiction. Alex admits this story is not for the faint of heart, which perhaps explains the endorsement of New York Times bestselling author, Lisa Gardner, "Fasten your seatbelt and prepare for a wild ride."

Her first three novels, originally published by The Haworth Press, were picked up by Bella Books and are being brought back-to-print and in electronic format, Facades in 2011, Back to Salem in 2012, and A Matter of Degrees in late 2013.

First novels, then screenplays, then Alex began asking, "What's next?" Spurred on by her workshop participants where Alex reveals a unique creativity process, she was encouraged to write a creative nonfiction book. Knowing that her creative process could help anyone obtain direction and guidance from their Higher Power through signs, she wrote Lifesigns: Tapping the Power of Synchronicity, Serendipity and Miracles. This spirituality book is also a creativity book, is self-transformative and was publishing at the end of 2012 and the winner of the 2013 Living Now Book Award SIlver in the Metaphysical category.

Alex is well published in the subject of spirituality. Her articles can be read on many internet websites and many magazines including, Science of Mind. She is a regular contributor as the National New Thought Examiner on examiner.com.

For years Alex has conducted workshops on spirituality, creativity and inspirational writing. She teaches that accessing innate gifts – like intuition – can enhance creativity. She particularly loves teaching the Lifesign Process.

Alex was recently selected and is featured as one of the "50 Great Writers You Should be Reading," by The Authors' Show.

She is a member of Mystery Writers of America, Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers, Lambda Literary Agency and Lighthouse Writers. She's also a member of the Association for Research and Enlightenment, a graduate of their Wayshower training (psychic development program), a member of the Wayshower Association, a former member of the Intuitive Task Force; a group of professional psychics who assisted families and law enforcement agencies in locating missing children and working cold cases. Additionally, she's a member of Mile Hi Church, where she studies advanced courses on Ernest Holmes' philosophy, faith and way of life; the principles of Science of Mind.
