I always wanted to do a story that dealt with iconic figures and symbols of right and wrong but not use them in the traditional ways, i.e. Devil=Evil, God=Good, 666=Evil etc. I wanted to do a story about the mark of beast (which is the number of man) that was NOT apocalyptic in nature and brought the issue more close to home, you could say. We as people often do mental division – what I mean is, those people over there are good, those over there are bad, those wear the mark, those do not, etc. I have my own thoughts about all that and I decided to portray some truth to society through an entertaining novel. My whole take is that we are ALL MARKED with 666, but like everything there are always two sides to the coin. 666 is neither good or bad solely – but both at the same time. By our choices we empower our mark with good or with evil. The book goes into more detail on this, but in a nutshell – we are all carbon-based life-forms – the atom of carbon has 6 – electrons, 6 – protons, and 6 neutrons, hence all mankind is marked with 666, it’s just a matter of how we empower our status.
I’ve been writing feature length screenplays for over 12 years and have always had a “story up my sleeve”. With NUMBER OF MAN I realized that the story was too expansive to hammer out as a two hour film to begin with, I decided to revisit my humble beginnings in prose and attempt to construct a novel. After the first 50 pages, the rust was worn off and I was on a novelistic roll that pushed me to the end of the book. Definitely a different type of writing, but the storytelling part never changes. This novel has shown me that I am a well rounded writer, able to tackle the silver screen or the bookstore and to tell you the truth, I think I like the novel, just a tad bit more!
