I am a retired police officer with over 30 years experience (retiring at the rank of Assistant Chief of Police). I have taught at the undergraduate and gradute level in colleges and universities, as an adjunct professor. Over the years I have been published in a variety of magazines and professional journals. Writing has been an important part of my life since elementary school, and I have been doing art work since before memory avails me. My greatest literary influences were William Faulkner, Thomas Wolf and Stephen King because of their powerful use of language as a vehicle for transporting the reader beyond the strictures of the material world and the limited expression of physical existence. One of more profound, albiet unintended influences on my writing was the practice I gained taking verbatum written confessions while working as a police detective that gave me a profeciency in replicating the spoken word in written form with a natural "sound" to it. Although all my published work has been nonfiction, I am currently writing on two fiction works based upon experiences from my police career (what x-cop doesn't try that).
