I have written most of my life, but never submitted anything for publishing. Thank you to the people that have read my writings and for your comments.

Background Information

I had a strong bible belt upbringing. Being raised in Indiana, in farm country, alone as an only child, gives you time to meditate on, "Why are we here?". What is our purpose? Will I do anything worthwhile? Will I be the one to solve the World's problems? I know I could if only I had the chance. These are all thoughts that went through my head as a child. But, like most people, we go to school, grow up, get a job and suddenly life is passing you by and you say, "Wait a minute!". I haven't done anything yet. I'm not famous. I'm not rich. I better get busy. So, you get busy. You get more education, a better job. Buy more things. Have more bills. You work hard to keep even in life. You look around you and see that you're pretty much where everyone else is. This is about where I started writing. Just thoughts at first. Then short stories. Mostly children's stories. Then poetry. I found that I really liked poems. I was influenced by Robert Frost, especially "Mending Walls". I didn't relate as much to the "Walls" as much as "Good Fences Make Good Neighbors". I remember growing up, living next door to neighbors on each side of our property. Each house had a fence between our properties. We all made sure the fences were always in good repair and had flowers planted on both sides. We had good neighbors. Myself and my parents spent many an hour leaning on the back fence and talking to our neighbors. We learned about each others problems, joys, achievements and dreams over that back fence. I have not experienced any time like that in the rest of my life. I also have not lived where we had fences between neighbors. I've also noticed that most neighbors are not very close anymore. We don't even pay attention to what they are doing. We are all to busy. We have lost the close caring that we once had for each other in our neighborhood. We have lost ourselves!

Birth Place
Kokomo, IN

Spent 2 years in the military. Stationed at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. Having grown up in the printing business, when I enlisted, I asked for something in printing or the Medical Corp. So, they made me Post Printer for Walter Reed. I did not finish basic training. I got a direct assignment to Washington. This was during the time of the Korean War. Being stationed in Washington at this time in history was a phenomenal time in my life. I was among 16 G.I.'s who were invited to go to the White House and have cake and ice cream on the south lawn of the White House. I was formally introduced to our 34th President, President Dwight Eisenhower and the First Lady, Mimi. All the Chiefs of Staff were there as well. I spent 5 minutes talking to Richard Nixon, who was to become our 37th President. I was still in Washington going to college, when our 35th President, President John F. Kennedy was shot. I was downtown in a phone booth and all the phones went dead. I stepped out on the street and asked a passerby what might be wrong. They replied, President Kennedy had just been shot. I was also in front of the White House on Pennsylvania Avenue when his caisson passed by during his funeral procession.
