Fun and Easy Science for kids (ages 3+), teachers and parents from Dr. Kain.

Background Information

Columbia, South Carolina, has been her hometown for the last few years. With three "bright and beautiful children" in the local public schools, Dr. Kain felt it was her responsibility to get more involved in education. First, she developed a professional relationship with the University of South Carolina. Then she became a science resource to select classes at Windsor Elementary in Columbia. This combination of professional skill and experience with the emphasis on young children led to the creation of The Science Spiders. Dr. Kain's goal is truly to make science more enjoyable and easy to learn in our increasingly technology-oriented world. Besides her career and children, Dr. Kain enjoys many self-taught hobbies such as gardening, woodworking and arts-and-crafts. The family includes a menagerie of dogs, cats, gerbils, iguanas, rabbits and turtles.Visiting children love to stay the entire weekend in the Kain household. Fun and games, animals, science and art are found in every corner - waiting for a child to discover. Just like in Dr. Kain's stories.

Accomplishments

Dr. Kathleen Kain received her B.S. degree from Vanderbilt University in a double major: Biomedical Engineering and Materials Science and Engineering. She went on for graduate study and earned her Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from Vanderbilt in 1985. Since then she has worked for DuPont in a variety of positions, including Research and Development, Sales, Manufacturing and Engineering. Professionally, she is a member of the National Science Teachers Association and is an associate member of the DuPont Fellows Forum.
