My inspiration for poetry comes from many places. I am a dancer. I discovered West African dance three years ago and it literally changed my life. So a lot of what I write comes from that constant exposure to movement and the rhythms of the drum. But many times the most potent inspiration comes when I'm simply drawing on paper with crayons, sewing or coming out of a difficult life situation. These seemingly separate but significant "healing" moments I believe become the foundation for the creation of words. Together these moments and words create the music I feel is poetry.
