In my first novel, A CHANGE OF HEART, you will notice that James Baldwin has been a major influence in my writing. In fact, I have included a quote from the late, great writer, in my book: "Not everything that is faced can be changed. But nothing can be changed until it is faced.

Background Information

Born and raised in Hartford, Connecticut, Jermaine Watkins was inspired to write early in his youth, in connection with his then developing passion for reading. As a teenager, he discovered the strong talents of popular best-selling novelists in his high school library. However, he gradually discovered another, depressing reality: in comparison to novels written by white authors, there were no "positive" reflections of his beloved black culture. For over a decade, he has worked diligently to develop a unique tone of writing that will embrace all nationalities, as a true reflection of today's world. He has worked for a popular Connecticut newspaper, The Journal Inquirer. He still resides Connecticut, where he is working on his second novel.
