Even as the book was almost at Cover Design stage, and despite the fact that I already said so, my editor still asked me to confirm that Noitpurroc “is a fiction, and that all characters appearing in the work are fictitious. Any resemblance to real persons, living or dead, is purely coincidental."

Background Information

Mikkibello is actually a combination of two names-Michael and Bello. The man who originally bore the name-Bello was the Author's grand father. The name- Michael belongs to author's father, son of Bello. As a young man, Micheal was a bit independent minded, he changed to christianity and jetisoned his Islamic name,Lamidi, for Michael. He, many years later, got married to author's mother, Felicia, who was an original christian and they began to raise a christian family. The author, Babatunde, was their first child. Probabaly because of his multi-religious background, the author often finds himself thinking about what is what in the different religions. The author grew up in a country that is trying to find her feet in modern politics, and a continent full of ambitious young solders who want to be heads of states for the fun of it; and greedy politicians who have no love for thier countries, yet it is an enviroment of great cultures and great people of science and arts; and of great hope for the future.

Birth Place
Ibadan,  Nigeria

The author is a law graduate, he practiced law for five years before leaving for the United States to pursue a writing career. His up-coming book,Noitpurroc, acquired by PublishAmerica is his first published title.Even as the book was almost at Cover Design stage, and despite the fact that the author already said so, his editor still asked him to confirm that Noitpurroc “is a fiction, and that all characters appearing in the work are fictitious. Any resemblance to real persons, living or dead, is purely coincidental.” That is a page in the author’s experience. He wrote Noitpurroc in 1998 under a different title. As a matter of fact he can not remember how many times he had changed the title, even the content had changed over the years but the idea had remained.

Writing a book may be simple but getting a traditional publisher to publish it is not. Between 1998 and 2006 when Noitpurroc manuscript was traditionally acquired by PublishAmerica a period of eight years of intensive search across the globe for a traditional publisher had passed. The author knew that he had what could be described as a good manuscript in his hands, but what beat him was why despite all efforts he could not get an editor or publisher to push his book through, not until he came to PublishAmerica did he understand.

When he first sent in Noitpurroc manuscript to PublishAmerica, it was then under the title- Odyssey: The Darwin’s Conspiracy. After a few weeks in-house review, he received an e-mail saying they, PublishAmerica, could not publish his book, they wished him the best of luck. He took the disappointment in his stride like hundreds of others that preceded it. A few weeks later, as he was almost forgetting about PublishAmerica, he received another e-mail asking him to resend the manuscript for their fresh review. The reason they gave for asking back for the manuscript opened his eyes as to why it had taken so long for him to find a publisher; the reason why editors told him they enjoyed reading his manuscript but did not take him up to the next step.

The author does not disclose the detail of the email here, though he can forward same to a fan on request, but it was clear from the content that there was a major division in the publishing house as to whether the manuscript should be published or not. It is an established fact that publishers often run away from materials they deem too real or sensitive, and in the author’s case someone always thought that what he wished to introduce was either too real or sensitive, even though his story is in the fiction category.

Not quite two weeks after he sent back the manuscript for their second review the author received an email slamming him in the face; once again-they were sorry, the book did not fit in and once again they wished him luck. That was when the author really sat down to ask the important question- what was it about the book that was really causing fears and “prejudice” and making the publishers and editors to stay away even though they loved it? So he decided to step down some of the book’s energy by changing the use of certain words, as well as totally deleting some paragraphs which ran into pages. He also changed the book’s title from The Darwin’s Conspiracy to Noitpurroc, the present title.

But despite all the changes, the author ensured that the book still sustained its original focus. Having done that, he went back to PublishAmerica. It normally takes between two to four weeks to hear from their acquisition department; but to his surprise, exactly four days after he sent in the revised manuscript he received an e-mail titled-“Noitpurroc book accepted.” And as already mentioned, even as the book was almost at Cover Design stage, and despite the fact that he already said so, his editor still asked him to confirm that Noitpurroc “is a fiction, and that all characters appearing in the work are fictitious. Any resemblance to real persons, living or dead is purely coincidental.”

Additional Information

The author discovered his full potential for writing novel-length stories at the period when he was suspended for six weeks in high school in 1988. It happened that he was one of the twenty-two student body executives in his high school. There came a time when the student executive body agitated for better facilities in the school from the school authority. When it became clear that the authority would not do a thing about the collective agitation the student executive body decided to write a collective letter of resignation signed by every one of the members. After the joint letter was submitted, the school authority went into a private session and came out with a decision rejecting the joint letter and demanding that an individual letter of resignation be written by every resigning student executive. The student executive body promptly went into a session and individual letter of resignation was written by every member. A crosscheck was done to ensure that every one had this letter before going to the principal’s office for tendering. The second day, it was announced with documentary evidence that only eight out of twenty-two executive students had tendered their letters of resignation. The author was among the eight. The other fourteen had individually tendered a concealed letter that they did not wish to resign. That was the first treachery that the author would experience in the hands of fellow men. He was expelled; latter commuted to six weeks suspension from school along side the other seven fellow executives. While at home on suspension, the author began to apply his time to writing. He wrote his first novel length manuscript titled-Madam Blondie. That manuscript was never published, and it was lost in transit years later. But the period marked the beginning of the authors writing adventure.
