A Necessary End
When 23 year old Katie Maguire graduated from the Miami police academy, she was looking forward to the start of her new career with the South Beach Police Department. But she hadn't even been to her first roll call yet when Sergeant Steve Callaghan approached her for a special undercover assignment . . . as an underage prostitute. Officer Maguire was led to believe it was an easy detail, with plenty of backup, and very little danger involved.
Katie has exceptional physical qualities and talents (she is a uniquely gifted black belt in karate), but she is unaware she possesses a mysterious endowment which, unknown to her, has been passed down through many generations by her ancestors. However, even with these special talents and gifts, she is not perfect. For one thing, in seeming contrast to her other attributes, Katie is somewhat accident-prone, which often gets her into trouble. For another, she can't seem to maintain intimate relationships with men, and has no idea why. Finally, and for no apparent reason, Katie suffers from Ailurophobia, an abnormal fear of cats.
Death, as Shakespeare's Julius Caesar said, is inevitable, a necessary end not to be feared, especially if one is valiant and honorable. Katie Maguire is just such a person, and she has been taught from an early age to follow her destiny, and to never fear death. But death has stalked Katie, ever since she was a baby. A ruthless serial killer had taken the lives of both her parents when she was only two years old, and the murderer vowed to return someday to finish what he started. Other people in Katie's life have died too, but she seems destined for some greater purpose.
The hooker detail is going as planned, her cop friends are everywhere, and Katie is playing the part like a pro. But then, like the shattering of a dropped crystal vase, Murphy's Law takes over, and all hell breaks loose.
Suddenly the FBI and the CIA are involved, as is the mysterious Mr. Smith and his team of mercenaries. The previously routine South Beach P.D. vice investigation has now become an international incident involving hostile governments and weapons of mass destruction. Somehow, without realizing what's going on, Katie gets caught in the middle of the whole mess, and soon finds herself being held captive aboard a luxury yacht, heading halfway around the globe. Her captor is dashing and handsome, and extremely wealthy, and despite her predicament, Katie finds herself falling for him.
So now the race is on, to find this new secret weapon, and to get it away from the terrorists. Recruiting Katie's best friend and academy classmate Marty, Steve and his new rookie partner begin their quest to get their favorite female police officer back, before more bad things happen to her. But others are looking for Katie too, and the new weapon. The stakes are high, and the safety and security of the whole world is at risk. As for Katie, death finally catches up to her and, with a tenacious grip, is preparing to drag her into oblivion. Is this the end of Katie Maguire's journey? Has the power of her ancestor's mysterious legacy run out? Has Katie fulfilled her destiny yet?
