I am an Iraqi poet. I write poetry in Arabic, Spanish, German and English.
In addition to my presence in Arabic poetry, I have some presence in Spanish and English poetry. I was born on February 12, 1937 in Qalat Salih, province of Al-Imara in the south of Iraq. I grew up and went to school in Kirkuk in the north of Iraq. In addition to being a poet, I am also journalist, blogger, painter,

Since 1953, I have published numerous poems, short stories, translations, journalistic and academic articles in various media, countries and languages. In 1992 my epical poem "Iraq" (Arabic, 100 pages) was published by Riad El-Rayyes Books (London, Beirut). In 2005, I Published my collection "Embellecimiento después de mi nacimiento en Ur" (Beautification After My Birth at Ur),  poems in Spanish with samples of poems in English, Arabic and German. A collection of poems in English titled "German Poems" will be published as book-on-demand in  2007 by Publishers, an company.

(Forthcoming: more info and links about publications.)

Due to my political activity against the despotic monarchy and later the republican military regimes, I was arrested in 1954 when I was still at high school and was tried in a civilian court in Kirkuk. After the bloody military coup of February 8, 1963, I was arrested and tortured while studying painting at the University of Baghdad. I was detained for eight months and tried at the Fourth Military Tribunal in kirkuk. Due to these circumstances I was obliged to give up my studies at the university. In 1966, I was again detained and kept in solitary confinement during one week at the General Directorate of Security in Baghdad.

After graduating from high school in 1955, I worked in oil drilling in the province of Kirkuk. It was a one year positive experience that marked my life.

During the following years I worked as a teacher, journalist, graphic designer, calligrapher and translator in Baghdad until I left to Germany in 1968 where I earned my Ph.D. in journalism and political science from Universität Leipzig in 1997.

Later, I taught journalism and communication at the International Institute of Journalism in Berlin, Germany, at the University of Algiers, Algeria, and since 1984 to the present at the University of Costa Rica.
