I received an excellent education from Corsicana High School - located in Corsicana, Texas. I graduated in the top 5% of my class with a 4.0 grade point average and earned a diploma with honors. I dropped out of the University of Texas at Austin in my sophomore year to return to my birthplace Santa Cruz, CA. This was right on schedule as I met my wife of 16 years here only a year later. I traveled around and lived in various parts of the Northwest until I bought a house in Coos Bay,OR.
I began reading at the age of four, and continue to be an avid, some would say compulsive, reader to this day. My high school AP English classes gave me the desire and foundation to become a writer - it was a competitive class full of over-achievers. A fondness of mystery and fantasy turned into an insatiable desire for science fiction. From pulp science fiction to hard science fiction and everything in between, I learned about culture, society, sciences, and the indomitable human spirit. Now I read mostly non-fiction and I have developed a talent for critical thinking, problem solving, and simplifying subject matter.
I am not happy with the state of journalism in our country and believe an educated populace will strengthen our nation as well as the world.
