My novel, THE RECKONING, a coming-of-age adventure of greed, violence and retribution, was published in trade paperback in December. My completed screenplay, based on the novel, is now being marketed. My second book, HOW TO PROMOTE YOUR HOME BUSINESS, was published in February. An ex-journalist, I worked 10 years on dailies in California and Florida, was a magazine editor in San Francisco, and now

Background Information

I've been writing fiction for years, influenced largely by novelists of the 1920s and 1930s, and more recently by contemporary novelists and short story writers. Among my favorites are Mark Twain, Ernest Hemingway, and John Steinbeck. Other favorites include Ron Hansen, Cormac McCarthy, Harriet Doerr, Joseph Conrad and James Carlos Blake.

Birth Place
Lincoln, NE

In college I won two scholarships for magazine editing, national first place in the William Randolph Hearst Editorial Writing Championship, and won magazine editing awards from the Public Relations Society of America. I've published widely as a freelance writer-photographer. I studied screenwriting with actress-screenwriter Kate Phillips (who wrote Steve McQueen's first major film).

Additional Information

In its review of THE RECKONING, Western Writers of America wrote: The Reckoning is a beautifully written novel with a strong sense of place and complex characters. A good read for a winterís evening. Both books are available at,,, and on
