I began writing and sharing my poetry to encourage, enlighten and inspire others through positive poetry to rise above their circumstances, take responsibility and turn mistakes into learning lessons.

Deserie has lectured or conducted seminars for DC Public Schools, several colleges, Concerned Black Men, Independent Schools, Comprehensive Health Department, The Department of Justice, Do The Write Thing Foundation, MultiCultural Youth Organization, Inc., For Sister’s Only Event, The Black Family Reunion and The Black Luv Festival. Deserie was also the official radio/t.v. voice-over representative for a local clothing chain.

Deserie’s perseverance is evident in her powerful personal testimony of trials and tribulations that is translated through her poetry in her first book, “Black Butterfly...Soaring On The Wings Of Poetry”. She has just released her debut poetry CD, “listen2myheartspek”, she is completing her first children's book, "NyAshia's Freedom Ride", and performs with Mad Jazz Poetry throughout the metropolitan area. Deserie and her daughter, SeKeithia have just launched their own Blog Radio Show...DeepRootz Sistah Community(DRSC) where women share and discuss issues that affect women.
