Catholic-Christian-Muslim Girls Gone Wild! My first memoir, Little X: Growing Up in the Nation of Islam (Harpe SanFrancisco, 1997) showed a strict religious upbringing. This second memoir, Do Me Twice: My Life After Islam (Simon &Schuster/Strebor Books, 2007) makes you wonder, huh?

I wrote initially to understand myself and my family's history. The second book I wrote to explain myself and young woman sorting through similar circumstances and choices. I finally feel free as the wind! No longer bound by the need to understand or be understood. Free, ahhhhhh! I hope this freedom's catchy. I hope people who read my works will in some way feel a sense of freedom - from guilt, from shame, from desperation, from anger and confusion, from something.

American Library Association Best Books for the Young Adult and the New York Library System Best Books for the Teen Age for Little X: Growing Up in the Nation of Islam.
Reveiws of Little X in Kirkus, Publisher's Weekly, the Washington Post, and other publications.
Several journalism awards including four from the Hampton Roads chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists.
I am most proud of simply publishing Do Me Twice: My Life After Islam because it is highly controversial and for someone who usually flees confrontation and controversy, this represents incredible personal growth. Of course I'd like to sell a million copies, but, the reward of being able to say what I really think and feel is priceless!

Do Me Twice: My Life After Islam
This book gives insight into the thoughts of one young woman struggling with her Muslim upbringing, but, more importantly, it is about empowering women to accept, own, understand, appreciate and celebrate our sensuality, sexuality, and spirituality.
