Background Information

Miriam "Mimi" Jacobs is an author, poet, and professional speaker. Prior to this, Mimi was employed with the U.S. Postal Service for 21 years. Miriam showed an early aptitude and love for creating, writing, and helping others. She was first published while still in high school in the school's publication, Jabberwocky.

Today, Mimi is making a tumultuous presence both in print and online. But more importantly, her readers and fans love her and her work. Much is to be appreciated; Jacobs is a master of several literacy genres and the author of eleven books including, Short Shorts with Susan E. Henry, Illuminations: Poetic Inspiration, Embracing Candace: Anthology One, My Name is Not Monkey Girl, The RestStop: Jeff and Jeanine, and The RestStop: Steve & Stephanie.

She also compiled How to Jump From a Ferris Wheel & Land on Your Feet, a ten volume inspirational series. The book is a multi-author anthology with a theme of, "From tragedy, to triumph."

In March, 2007, Mimi launched her highly-acclaimed indie publishing company, Candalyse Publishing, on a shoestring budget. The name was contrived as a tribute to two of her three granddaughters, Candace and Alyse. Her enthusiasm has helped her shape her branding and build a dynamic team around her including an editor, illustrator, and staff.

Mimi is a life-time New Yorker and has the accent to prove it. She currently resides in the beautiful Catskills region with her husband, Charles, her granddaughter, Candace, and their pets.

Miriam is a survivor of life. In fact, she has earned her PhD in life. She has persevered time after time, despite a multitude of hardships. Born to an alcoholic father who died from a fall when she was eighteen-years-old, Mrs. Jacobs has never given up on life. Since age twelve, she has used writing in a cathartic and helpful way. After her 28-year-old brother, his wife, and three young daughters were killed in a raging house fire, Miriam nearly gave up, losing all faith in God, yet she used her writing to work through the feelings associated with the tragedies. She also volunteered at local hospital Burn Units to help other families to cope. Deep depression and a downward spiral only motivated her to keep going.

After a twenty-one year career working with the public in the USPS, she started a second career working with mentally ill adults recovering from drugs and alcohol, assisting them to re-enter society. Married three times, the first two to abusive men who mentally and physically abused her, she never gave up on love or the institution of marriage. In fact, her current husband has been by her side since January 1996 helping to support and encourage her to reach her goals. Mrs. Jacobs often coaches young married couples to deal with the challenges that marriage presents. Her honest, no-nonsense approach to writing about her traumatic life experiences has brought her virtual acclaim through and other online sites.

"I thank God for giving me the strength to continue to put one foot in front of the other to do whatever is necessary for my granddaughter, Candace Chantel Battiste, born with Giant Congenital Nevus.

How to Jump From a Ferris Wheel and Land on Your Feet Vol. V- Available Now! The inspirational ten-volume series that is changing lives worldwide!

How to Jump From a Ferris Wheel and Land on Your Feet - The series was inspired and compiled by author, poet, and publisher Miriam L.Jacobs as she sought additional avenues to help empower others.
