Our book can be found on Amazon: Brain Injury Survivor's Guide - Welcome to Our World
It's been a little over 17 years since the doctor said, "I don't expect her to survive..." and today my wife and co-author, Beth, is a pillar of success.
Our primary motivation for this book is twofold. A neuropsychologist told us that about 75% of people who suffer brain injury are not covered by insurance for the needed rehabilitation. And then there are the thousands of soldiers returning from war facing a life with brain injury.
Our book spells out the compensatory strategies Beth used to overcome memory, cognitive and behavioral problems. We're also building a website of resources and additional strategies to support the book.
In real life, I design websites and do a little photography. Beth is a purchasing agent for a national corporation.
We maintain a Brain Injury Information website at http://www.brain-injury-online.com.
October 2009 Update: I've begun writing a novel in which a few characters sustain brain injuries of varying types. The main character is a family caregiver. The purpose of the book is to present brain injury in a more understandable fashion for everyone.
