Have been in journalism since 2003. Currently reading for Bsc Honours Degree in Journalism and Media Arts with the National University of Science and Technology (NUST), Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. I write short stories, poems, plays and journalism work.

Background Information

I got interested in writing in 1993 when I saw South Africa's Sarafina. The play inspired me into writing a poem about the fate of the black man. Even though the poem was childish and immature, since then I have not looked back. I read Chinua Achebe when I was at Secondary School. I got hooked and wanted to be a writer. Later when I was at journalism college i discovered Buchi Emecheta and she remains the finest writer to me. I have read English literature and loved Jane Austen. I have also been inspired by Ndebele novelists like Ndabezinhle Sigogo and Barbara Makhalisa.

Birth Place
Bulawayo,  Zimbabwe

I have not won an award to date and am just starting to write seriously with an eye for publication.

Additional Information

I am now writing from my Ndebele world, that is to say I draw my inspiration from my Ndebele history, culture and language. I am sure from here on wards my work will have an added maturity. My history is sad and triumphant and I want to reflect all that. It surprises me how as Ndebeles and Zimbabweans we stand so close to our history. The liberation struggle is less than 30 years away. The genocide of 1982-7 is still with us and fresh in our minds.
