After Desert Storm, I spent several years as a narcotics agent, infiltrating both the Mexican mafia as well as local gangs. Politics, envy and other factors gradually changed the way I felt about what I did.
When I no longer loved the job (being law enforcement is like being a teacher, you have to love the profession to do it properly), I quit and moved to Juarez, Mexico. Living in Mexico has proven to be an adventure as well, and in Smoke I have combined these experiences into an action-packed novel.
