Eric Beckemeier, nonfiction author of Traitors Beware enjoys researching, reading and writing about extremist groups and political causes.

Background Information

Eric Beckemeier grew up near the small town of Norborne, Missouri, about 60 miles east of Kansas City. There he enjoyed a rural childhood that has greatly influenced his writing style. Living outside of city limits, Eric was exposed to nature constantly as a child and is an avid outdoorsman still today. Eric enjoys spending time in the great outdoors hunting and fishing when he is not writing or promoting his writings. The old-time country work ethic that is instilled in children who grow up in small towns has assisted Eric in the in-depth research that is necessary to write non-fiction. Growing up near Norborne inspired Eric to write "Traitors Beware: A History of Robert DePugh's Minutemen" Robert DePugh, the leader of the Minutemen, lived in Norborne for most of the organization's existence. Stories about the Minutemen containing both fact and fiction fueled Eric's interest to write "Traitors Beware" during his senior year at college. However, in his first non-fiction work, Eric strived to supply the reader with only fact through his painstaking research. "Traitors Beware" is Eric's first book but he is currently brainstorming ideas for his second. His ideas include another book about an extremist group or perhaps a work about the Libertarian movement.

Eric Beckemeier recently graduated summa cum laude from the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, MO with a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice. While at the Central he won the Writing Across the Curriculum Award for his work on "Traitors Beware" as his senior honors project. Eric is also a graduate of the Honors College at Central Missouri and was a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. Eric recieved the Distinguished Scholar Award and the Criminal Justice Departmental Achievement Award from Central Missouri all 4 years. Eric was also a Bright Flight scholar.

Eric is currently enlisted in the United States Air Force Reserve. He has served over three years and was an Honor Graduate from Basic Military Training.

Additional Information

Eric's most first and most recent work is "Traitors Beware: A History of Robert DePugh's Minutemen" The Minutemen, under Robert DePugh's leadership, existed for a relatively short period of years during the 1960s. They were a vicously anti-Communist, militant organization that believed a Comunist invasion of the United States was imminent, most likely through internal subversion. The organization advocated extremist tactics in what they believed was going to be a geurrilla war against communism on American soil. Eventually the Minutemen's extreme nature and propensity for violence brought them to the attention of law enforcement, most specifically the FBI. After Robert DePugh and other members were convicted of firearms violations and sent to prison, the leaderless organization faded into obscurity. The aim of this book is to provide an accurate historical record of the Minutemen because previous research concerning the Minutemen has often been severely biased against the organization. This book is for the reader who is interested in militant organizations and right-wing extremist groups.
