Background Information

I used to read a lot when I was young. I had a weird obsession with reading and writing stories about twins, identical and fraternal, same- and mixed-gender pairs.

I stopped reading for a long time in my teens, unless you count anything and everything having to do with the Backstreet Boys.

I made a conscious effort to resume reading in my early twenties with a book called 'Lady of Ch'iao Kuo: Warrior of the South.' The book was good, so I was successful. Only a few of the many novels I've read since were so putrid that I gave up on them: 'Cranford' by Elizabeth Gaskell and 'Those in Peril' by Nicolas Freeling stand out on that list.

Meaning to enroll in a web design course, I mistakenly wound up in back-end programming and disliked it. Nonetheless, I graduated, having pissed away a lot of money for the course. A year of working in a call centre later, I enrolled in university English. I did well, even received two invitations to the Honours program, but I found the curriculum dull, impractical, and not worth its massive cost.

I've been crafting prose since I could hold a pen. When I was little, I wrote terrible rhyming poetry about kittens and crap, and articles for community newsletters about my cat and things that annoyed me about school. In high school I wrote emo poetry about how crappy life was and long-winded, completely unrealistic Harlequin stories. So basically, I haven't changed since then, except that with the aid of my university education I can now sound more pretentious! Yay!
