I LOVE words!!!
I see them as Art. Music. Therapy!
My Pen is my Wand. My Sword. An extension of ME!
My background. I began writing poetry as an outlet for my "teenage angst years." I settled into the business of life - single parenthood. Work. School. Marriage. Found some of my old works one day and realized how much I missed expressing myself through verse. So I began to write again. Initially, most of the poems were reflective of what I was experiencing personally. But eventually, my writing began to reflect the events and relationships of people and situations around me.
Major Influences: LIFE!! And a very active imagination. My mother. Ever since I can remember, my mother would give me books to read. Early Influences: Dr. Seuss. Sesame Street. The Electric Company! Say it with me: "Buh. OOK. Book" ;-) Rudyard Kipling. I spent my Junior High School years in the library! Formative reading years - (Thank you to My late Great Grandmother Helen P. Jones who sent my sister and I home every time we visited her with a book in our hands and cookies to munch when we read them!) Langston Hughes. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Maya Angelou. Khalil Gibran (Thank you GiGi Millie Brown!). Thank you to my mama Yvonne Carroll for all the shared laughter - our story is definitely one for the books! :-)
Favorite books/authors: "A Wrinkle In Time" by Madeleine L'Engle. "Wild Seed" by Octavia E. Butler (RIP). "Hagakure, The Book of the Samurai" by Yamamoto Tsunetomo. My Greatest Life Achievement(s): My children.
Greatest Literary Achievements:
I have had a poem published in the International Poet's Society's "Budding Joy". I had over 30 poems published on the urban ezine "The Riff" from 2000 - 2007 (currently on hiatus pending revamp).
I am currently compiling my poems for three poetry books: a relationship book in prose; an erotic poetry book and a book of poetry for teenagers. After which I hope to "graduate" to writing a novel or 2, maybe 5... Awards would be nice, but having my works read, enjoyed and cherished by others is my ideal goal.
I have had the pleasure of providing PR for several author friends who have gone on to successful careers as authors. Now its time for me to use what I have learned and step into the spotlight!
